2. HARRY CRAVEN CUP Best PIECE OF PROSE
in Lancashire Dialect. Overall limit 2000 words.
3. ANN RIDGEON CUP The best STORY with a Lancashire Theme
in Standard English. Overall limit 2000 words. (Limited dialogue in Dialect permitted)
Entries which are not Lancashire in theme will be disqualified.
4. EDITH GRAYSHAN GOBLET The best POEM with a Lancashire Theme
in Standard English.
Entries which are not Lancashire in theme will be tranferred to Presidents' Cup.
VICAR SHAW TROPHY AWARD for the best over-all entry IN CLASSES 1 - 4.
5. PRESIDENT'S CUP The best POEM in Standard English
- subject matter open
TH' OWD TAY CADDY THE BEST ENTRY in classes 1 - 5
from a competitior who is not a previous winner.
T' KISSIN' SHUTTLE For the best PRESENTATION of a DIALECT PIECE
at the Waugh Supper.
Please note the rules carefully. The Competition Secretary's decision is final.
RULES
1. The competition is open to members of the Society only.
2. Entries should not be named but be accompanied by a covering note indicating the name of the writer.
3. Writers are advised to keep a copy of their entries. Original entries will be returned at the Waugh Supper.
4. Winning entries, or extracts therefrom, may be performed by the authors (or proxy) at the Waugh Supper.
5. Trophies will be presented at the Waugh Celebration Supper in March. They remain the property of the Society and should be returned no later than the following January meeting.
6. Entries should not be, or have been, published or publicly recited before the presentation of the trophies .
7. Entries may be resubmitted in a subsequent year, provided that they comply with Rule 6.
8. Th’ Owd Tay Caddy and T’ Kissin’ Shuttle may be held only once.
9. The committee reserves the right to withhold a trophy if there are insufficient entries
NOTE:-
CLASS 5 (Presidents' Cup) HAS BEEN INTRODUCED AS AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO WRITERS OLD AND NEW.
It is in addition to the more prescriptive dialect and Lancashire theme classes in the hope that new writers will be able to try their hand at poetry writing and that more experienced writers will also be able to enter work that does not comply with the requirements of the existing classes 1-4.
