Edwin Waugh's letters
to His publisher

Edwin Waugh's letters to his publisher
1888 to 1890

The Edwin Wuagh Dialect Society have been pleased to be able to purchase around 50 letters that Edwin Waugh wrote to his publisher from 1888 until just a few weeks before before he died in 1890.

We are looking to store the master copies in Touchstone Library Rochdale for their safe preservation.

Here are the scans of the letters in 4 batches. They are more easily read if you zoom in to about 175%

13th March 1888     to      30th Dec 1888

8th January 1889     to      21st May 1889

7th June 1889            to      12th December 1889

9th January 1890     to.      1st March. 1890

The penultimate letter of  this last batch dated  Sunday eveming 13th April 1890 from a Mrs Moorhouse telling his publisher that Edwin was not very well.

The ultimate undated letter is from  A Waugh telling his publisher that  Mr Waugh had undergone on operation in Manchester and was progressing favourably!

Sadly, on 30th April 1890, Edwin Waugh died of cancer of the tongue at 8 pm at his home, 'The Hollies', in New Brighton.
